Bogorodičine suze, the Tears of the Theotokos: this is what the Serbian people call the teardrop-shaped seeds from which this brojanica is made. 50 beads form a long prayer chain that ends in a cross. At the centre of the cross, a metal element shows the Theotokos with the Child.
The beads are natural plant seeds. Their silver-grey sheen with darker and lighter speckles is given by nature, so no bead is like another and every brojanica is unique. The beads are joined with silver-coloured metal links, and the arms of the cross are made from the same seeds.
The 50 beads accompany personal prayer, bead by bead, for example with the Jesus Prayer: Lord Isus Hristos, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. As a gift for Slava, baptism, Božić or Vaskrs, it is a sign of faith that lasts.
