Deca čitaju srpsku istoriju – I kolo (Children Read Serbian History, Series I – Set)

A children's book set about the rulers of the Nemanjić dynasty, Serbian history and national identity

With "Deca čitaju srpsku istoriju – I. Kolo", children discover the history of important Serbian rulers and personalities in an age-appropriate and vivid way. The eight-part set forms the first part of the multi-award-winning series "Deca čitaju srpsku istoriju" (Children Read Serbian History) by author Slobodan Stanišić and the Serbian publisher Pčelica.

This set focuses particularly on the era of the Nemanjić dynasty. Beginning with Stefan Nemanja and his son Rastko, the later Saint Sava, the books lead through the history of Stefan Prvovenčani, Uroš I, King Dragutin, King Milutin, Stefan Dečanski, Tsar Dušan and his son Uroš. In this way, children get to know some of the most important personalities of medieval Serbia and their stories.

The texts by Slobodan Stanišić are complemented by illustrations by Jovan Ukropina, Tihomir Čelanović and Ozren Miždalo. The combination of understandable narratives and strong visual design makes Serbian history vivid and accessible even for younger readers.

The series was awarded as the best children's book edition at the 59th International Book Fair in Belgrade. In addition, it received an international award in Minsk as the best children's book edition in Slavic languages dedicated to the history and culture of the Slavic peoples.

All eight books are written entirely in Serbian and Cyrillic script. This makes the set particularly suitable for families in the diaspora who want to introduce their children not only to Serbian history but also to the Cyrillic script and encourage its use.

The complete set includes the following eight titles:

„Стефан Немања добија сина Растка“
„Стефан Првовенчани и венецијанска принцеза“
„Урош Први и Јелена Анжујска“

„Стефан Дечански од роба до краља“
„Душан Силни – детињство будућег цара“
„Урош Нејаки – син Душана Силног“
