A children's book set about Serbian history, important personalities, and national identity
With "Deca čitaju srpsku istoriju – II. Kolo," children discover eight significant personalities and stories from Serbian history in an age-appropriate and engaging way. This eight-part set is the continuation of the multi-award-winning series "Deca čitaju srpsku istoriju" (Children Read Serbian History) by author Slobodan Stanišić and the Serbian publisher Pčelica.
The books focus on personalities such as Jefimija, Miloš Obilić, Simonida, Prince Lazar, Princess Milica, Despot Stefan, Princess Olivera, and Marko Kraljević. They guide children through important eras of Serbian history, telling stories of rulers, princesses, knights, heroes, and figures whose lives remain a part of Serbian cultural memory to this day.
The texts by Slobodan Stanišić are complemented by illustrations from Jovan Ukropina, Mladen Anđelković, Ozren Miždalo, Tihomir Čelanović, and Mijat Mijatović. The combination of understandable narratives and strong visual design makes historical topics accessible even to younger readers.
The series was awarded Best Children's Book Edition at the 59th International Book Fair in Belgrade. The II. Kolo also received a special award for Publisher's Project of the Year at the International Book Salon in Novi Sad. Additionally, the edition was honored there with the 3rd "Zaharije Orfelin" Award for the Most Beautiful Book.
All eight books are written entirely in Serbian and in Cyrillic script. This makes the set particularly suitable for families in the diaspora who want to introduce their children to Serbian history and the Cyrillic script, and encourage its use.
The complete set includes the following eight titles:
„Јефимија – прва српска књижевница“
„Милош Обилић – јунак над јунацима“
„Симонида – најмлађа српска краљица“
„Кнез Лазар – у замци лукавог жупана“
„Кнегиња Милица и девет Југовића“
„Деспот Стефан – витез Реда Змаја“
„Принцеза Оливера на дворцу султана Бајазита“
„Марко Краљевић и његова браћа“
The books have a sturdy hardcover binding and are delivered together as a complete set. They are particularly suitable for families who want to introduce their children to Serbian history, language, and cultural heritage in an understandable and exciting way.
