The lives of our ancestors were closely intertwined with the course of the year, church holidays, and traditional customs. For many days of the year, there were specific rituals, songs, gatherings, and actions, the meaning of which was passed down from generation to generation. This cultural and religious heritage still tells us a great deal about the life, faith, and traditions of the Serbian people.

The extensive work "Годишњи обичаји у Срба – Живот по народном календару" is dedicated to the annual customs of Serbs and describes traditional life in accordance with the folk calendar. Across 473 pages, numerous religious holidays, traditional customs, and forms of communal celebrations are documented and placed within their historical and cultural context.

The book covers a total of 110 holidays and their associated customs, 16 types of ritual processions, and five different forms of traditional festivals. This creates a comprehensive picture of how the year was structured in traditional Serbian life and how closely faith, family, community, and customs were connected.

A particular strength of the work is its geographical diversity. The materials used come from numerous areas where Serbs lived or still live – including Vojvodina, Mačva, Stari Vlah, Negotinska Krajina, Metohija, Lika, Banija, Knin, Bosanska Krajina, Baranja, Semberija, and other regions. Thus, the book not only documents individual local traditions but also provides a broad insight into the diversity of Serbian customs.

The work is also particularly extensively designed visually. Illustrations by Marko Marković, works by naive artists from the collection of the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art in Jagodina, as well as photographs, icons, and frescoes accompany the texts, making the book a richly illustrated documentation of Serbian culture and tradition.

With 473 pages and a generous format of 29 × 22.5 cm, "Godišnji običaji u Srba" is an extensive reference work for anyone who wants to delve deeper into Serbian holidays, folk customs, and the traditional annual cycle. Especially for Serbian families in the diaspora, it offers the opportunity to preserve traditional knowledge and pass it on to future generations.
