This ornate candle is intended for the significant moments of faith – weddings (venčanje) and baptisms (krštenje). In Serbian Orthodox tradition, candlelight accompanies the bridal couple before the altar and the baptizand on their first journey into the church. As a symbol of the light of Christ, the candle is held during the sacrament and often kept afterwards as a memento of the day.
The candle is decorated with a floral arrangement of rose petals and delicate baby's breath, beneath which sits an organza bow with a wooden heart. The lower part of the candle is wrapped in satin ribbon, making it comfortable to hold during the ceremony and appear festive in photos. The wooden heart can be removed after the celebration and kept as a keepsake.
