This icon depicts Saint Simeon Mirotočivi, one of the most important saints of the Serbian Orthodox Church. As Grand Župan Stefan Nemanja, he laid the foundation of the medieval Serbian state before renouncing worldly power and embracing the monastic path.
Together with his son, Saint Sava, he founded the Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos. After his death, myrrh began to flow from his tomb, earning him the epithet Mirotočivi – the myrrh-flowing. To this day, he is revered as the patron saint of the Serbian people and as an example of faith, humility, and self-sacrifice.
