The Venčano platno is a traditional wedding cloth used in Serbian Orthodox weddings. It accompanies one of the most significant moments in the couple's life together and symbolizes the union of two people who begin their journey together in love, fidelity, and faith.
This Venčano platno is made of linen and adorned with elegant bronze-colored embroidery in three places on the cloth. At one end, there are two doves above intertwined wedding rings – a symbol of love, fidelity, and marital connection. The other end bears the Cyrillic inscription "Срећно венчање" – "Happy Wedding" – along with a delicate floral motif. In the middle of the cloth, there is also an embroidered cross, emphasizing the Christian character of the Venčano platno.
An elaborately crafted white lace border finishes both ends and harmoniously complements the simple linen fabric. With its dimensions of 138 × 31 cm, the Venčano platno is suitable for use in the Serbian Orthodox wedding ceremony.
After the wedding, the cloth can be kept as a special memento of the sacrament of marriage and the wedding day.
