Sveti Jovan Krstitelj – Preteča Hristov – Čedomilj Mijatović (Saint Jovan Krstitelj, Forerunner of the Lord)
Sveti Jovan Krstitelj, the Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord Isus Hristos, is one of the most venerated saints among the Serbian people. Jovanjdan is one of the most common Krsne slave – and it is for these families that Čedomilj Mijatović wrote this book.
Čedomilj Mijatović (1842–1932) was a Serbian statesman, historian and writer, several times a minister, envoy in London and a member of the Academy. He himself celebrated Sveti Jovan as his Slava and wanted to write the life of the great saint for his sasvečari and for all Orthodox Serbs. For years he read everything he could find about Sveti Jovan – and deliberately turned it not into a scholarly work, but into a clear, accessible account of the main events in the saint's life. He dated the foreword on Nikoljdan 1901 in Belgrade. This edition is a reprint of the 1902 edition, complemented by photographs of the author and the essay Sudbina i nasleđe Čedomilja Mijatovića by Stevan Kostić on the author's life and legacy.
A book for every home that celebrates Jovanjdan as its Slava – for your own library or as a gift for hosts, kumovi and sasvečari.
