Most Holy Theotokos

The Presveta Bogorodica (Most Holy Mother of God) is the most venerated figure in the Serbian Orthodox Church after Christ himself. As the Mother of the Lord, a powerful intercessor, and a protector of families, she is honored in countless miracle-working icons—from the Trojeručica and the Vladimirska to the Kazanska—and accompanies the faithful in all situations of life.

Several major feasts are dedicated to her, which many families celebrate as their Slava: Velika Gospojina (Dormition, August 28), Mala Gospojina (Nativity, September 21), Pokrov (Protection, October 14), and Vavedenje (Presentation, December 4). Families honor their patron saint on these days and pass this tradition down from generation to generation.
