Saint Elijah

Saint Elijah (Sveti Ilija, the Holy Prophet Elijah) is one of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament. With unshakable faith he stood up for the one true God and, according to Scripture, was taken up alive into heaven in a chariot of fire. Among the Serbian people he is venerated as Ilija Gromovnik, lord over thunder, rain and harvest.

Ilindan, his feast day on August 2nd, is one of the most widely celebrated Slavas among the Serbian people. On this day families honor their patron saint and pass this tradition down from generation to generation.

This collection brings together everything associated with the veneration of Saint Elijah – for faith at home, for the Slava, and as a gift for families celebrating Ilindan.
