Saint Stephen

Sveti Stefan (Saint Stephen the Archdeacon) is the first martyr of Christianity and the first of the seven deacons of the early church. As Prvomučenik, he stands for unwavering faith, humility, and the willingness to stand up for Christ – even until the very end, he prayed for those who persecuted him.

Stefanjdan, his feast day on January 9th, falls on the third day of Božić and is one of the most widely celebrated Slavas among the Serbian people. Countless families honor their patron saint on this day and pass this tradition on from generation to generation.
