Despot Đurađ – The ruler of the city with six towers

The Serbian despot Đurađ Branković was the second son of Vuk Branković and Mara, the daughter of the holy Prince Lazar. When he lost Belgrade, he faced a crucial challenge for his people. This book, written for children, tells how Đurađ Branković had a new city built on the Danube – Smederevo – and thus went down in history as a wise ruler, builder, and preserver of Serbian statehood.

The story powerfully conveys values ​​such as responsibility, steadfastness, and foresight in difficult times to young readers. It shows that courage lies not only in fighting, but also in building, persevering, and serving one's people.

As part of the third volume in the series "Deca čitaju srpsku istoriju" (Children Read Serbian History), this book is embedded in an excellent educational project. The third volume in the series was awarded the Stuplje Prize for its preservation of Serbian tradition and Orthodox spirituality.
